Arsene Wenger sent off for creating a splash in MU defeat Arsenal 2-1 in Old Trafford

FURIOUS Arsene Wenger last night launched a blistering attack on referee Mike Dean and insisted the official had been intimated by Old Trafford.

The Arsenal boss was livid at the end of Manchester United's controversial 2-1 triumph and was sent off for booting a water bottle after Robin van Persie's injury-time "equaliser" had been ruled out for offside.

Wenger angrily blasted Dean for AWARDING United a penalty after Wayne Rooney tumbled under keeper Manuel Almunia's challenge - and for REFUSING to give Arsenal one when Darren Fletcher appeared to haul down Andrey Arshavin. And Wenger invented a new word for the English vocabulary as he stormed: "The penalty decision was 'Old Traffordish'. There were a lot of things that happened which were beyond belief.

"We were the better team and lost. We were better for long periods of the game and we produced the best football.

"Can we deal with it? Yes, I'm convinced we can. We can be a real force."

Wenger also hit out at ref Dean for failing to book Fletcher.

He added: "How that player got away without a yellow card is amazing.

"I felt we played in the right spirit, but I saw one player who made 20 fouls without getting a yellow card and then no one sees it." The Arsenal chief claims his team are being victimised after the negative publicity surrounding Eduardo's penalty claim last week.

Wenger's attack comes just three days after Arsenal striker Eduardo was accused of diving to win a penalty in the Gunners' 3-1 Champions League triumph over Celtic.

The Croatian has since been charged by UEFA of conning the referee and Wenger has leapt to the defence of his player, branding the charge "a disgrace."

Wenger added: "I don't suppose this will be anywhere near as big an issue as Eduardo.

"There are 50 situations like that every weekend, but the Eduardo case has no logic.

"We have clear proof on video that he was touched by the keeper against Celtic. We will prove it."

Rooney went down in similar circumstances, caught by Almunia's outstretched arm inside the area.

The United striker said: "I didn't even think about it - he touched me on the way through. I didn't think there was any doubt about it. It was a penalty."

Wenger was later sent off by Dean when he kicked a water bottle in disgust after Van Persie's injury-time effort was ruled out.

Wenger sent out from the field.

Although William Gallas was clearly offside in the build-up, Wenger booted the water bottle after the assistant referee flagged for the infringement.

The Arsenal chief added: "Don't worry, I'm always in touch with the FA. Yes, I kicked the bottle when the goal was cancelled.

"I was disappointed, what can I say? It was 30 seconds from the end, he told me to go to the stands.

"I suppose it was a spectacular effort. The fourth official spotted it - I didn't know we weren't allowed to do it."

Wenger attempted to climb in to the stands, but was eventually led down the touchline by a security guard amid chaotic scenes.

Dean blew the final whistle moments later but Wenger's conduct will be in his report to the FA.

He faces a warning about his future conduct, but is unlikely to be fined or banned.

Man U new stand in Keeper

United stand-in keeper Ben Foster should have done better with the Arshavin rocket that put Arsenal ahead.

And Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted: "He's 26, but he hasn't played a lot of games and he lacks that experience.

"He knows he should have done better than that, there is no doubt about it. He has to improve in that area, but he will."

Ferguson also confirmed Rooney is now United's official penalty-taker.

Wenger wants clearer explanation of stoppage time rules

United’s goal at the death against City has renewed debate over the amount of stoppage time added by referees.

Coaches, players and fans need to be told how referees calculate stoppage time to stop the current confusion at the end of matches, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said yesterday.

Timekeeping and clock-watching — or at least turning the clock back — was very much the theme of the day with Wenger returning to the club’s old ground, which he officially reopened as a residential development known as Highbury Square.

Arsenal moved from their Highbury ground to the nearby Emirates Stadium after 93 years in 2006.

“It’s good to be back, I feel 12 years younger coming back to where I started, it does my joints a lot of good,” Wenger said before addressing one of the headline issues of the week.

The debate about time-keeping at the end of games was sparked by Michael Owen’s winning goal for Manchester United in their derby against Manchester City last Sunday.

It came after seven minutes of stoppage time at Old Trafford, although the referee had originally indicated only four minutes would be played.

Asked if he would like to see an independent time-keeper, Wenger said he thought referees should retain the responsibility but needed to explain how they added on additional time.

“If you give the responsibility to the referee it is very important that everyone should exactly know the rules. The referee has the freedom to make decisions.

“We all sit on the bench at the end of a game and if there have been four substitutions, plus two minutes of injury time, plus two minutes for another player going down, how much does that make? Nobody knows.”

United manager Alex Ferguson said on Wednesday the system used by referees, which he had long ago stopped trying to understand, was “madness” and Wenger echoed his great rival’s thoughts.

“I’m not happy with the way things are at the moment,” said the Frenchman. “I’d like it if we were given strict guidelines on how they calculate the time remaining. Nobody knows really.

“Is it 30 seconds for a substitution? Is it not ? Do they take the real time when the player is down?

“Do they calculate the time when they call the physio on the pitch or when the player goes down?

“Nobody knows how it is calculated. There is always a question mark at the end of a game how long you will play.

“The rules should be explained better.”

Wenger, whose team visit Fulham in the Premier League tomorrow, said goalkeeper Manuel Almunia had not yet recovered from his illness and although winger Theo Walcott had resumed training he was too short of match fitness to be considered.

However, he said their Russia playmaker Andrei Arshavin, who has missed Arsenal’s last four matches, should be fit and Robin Van Persie is likely to play after recovering from injury.

Romain Grosjean crashes into THAT wall in Singapore practice- 1 year ago Piquet crash side biggest scandal in F1 history

Frenchman Romain Grosjean has crashed his Renault at Singapore - at the exact spot where Nelson Piquet Jnr spun off a year ago to spark the biggest cheating scandal in Formula One history.

Grosjean, who replaced Piquet as Fernando Alonso's team-mate, clipped the outside of Turn 17 and speared across the track before hitting the wall.

There was no hint of race-fixing this time because the accident happened in the opening practice session for Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.

Renault's new boss Bob Bell, who took over after Flavio Briatore left the team in disgrace, had a rueful smile as he watched on from the pit wall.

Astonished Renault chiefs screamed: 'Seriously, that corner?' as the young French driver lost control.

'Sorry guys, I lost the car in Turn 17,' said a clearly upset Grosjean, who had complained of feeling unwell prior to the Friday practice.

The session was red-flagged for just over 10 minutes while the car was towed away.

Grosjean, who walked away uninjured, was given his chance at Renault when Piquet was sacked for poor results after the Hungarian Grand Prix in July.

The 20-year-old holds dual nationality from France and Switzerland but competes under a French racing licence.

He was the 2007 Formula Three Euroseries drivers' champion and the inaugural GP2 Asia Series champion.

Indeed, it was a latest blow for the embattled F1 outfit who discovered earlier today (Friday) that two of their key sponsors ING and Mutua Madrilena have curtailed their deals with scandal-hit team.

Flavio Briatore has sensationally quit the Renault Formula One team, following allegations of cheating at last year's Grand Prix in Singapore.
Renault said in a short statement that Briatore and Pat Symonds, the director of engineering, had both left the team ahead of a meeting on Monday with the sport's world ruling body, the FIA, to explain recent allegations of race-fixing.
"The team announces that its team chief, Flavio Briatore, and its director of engineering Pat Symonds have quit the team," the statement said.
Renault have been summoned to appear before the FIA's International Motor Sport Council in Paris on Monday to answer claims by Nelson Piquet Jr that he was asked by Renault to crash deliberately in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, so giving a race-winning advantage to team-mate Spaniard Fernando Alonso.

El Hadji Diouf claimed Everton fans threw bananas at him-No banana found.Everton now demand sorry.

El Hadji Diouf claimed Everton fans threw bananas at him

Outrage: El-Hadji Diouf claimed he was showered with bananas - but stewards and police found no evidence

Everton have demanded a full apology from El Hadji Diouf after the Blackburn Rovers winger accused supporters of the Merseyside club of throwing bananas at him during a Barclays Premier League match at Goodison Park.

Diouf first made the allegation to a police officer as he left the pitch after Sunday’s match but a search of the playing surface and the area of the stadium where the Senegal international claimed the incident had taken place failed to unearth any evidence to support his accusation.

Though outraged about the claims, Everton had initially refused to comment publicly, primarily because of an continuing investigation by Merseyside Police into allegations made by a teenage Goodison ball boy who accused Diouf of racially abusing him. But with the furore refusing to die down, Ian Ross, Everton’s director of communications, has broken his silence and demanded that Diouf retract his comments.

“What angered us at Everton are the allegations made by Mr Diouf in which he claimed he was ‘showered with bananas’ by Everton supporters,” Ross said. “That is wholly false and I would like him to retract that allegation and apologise to the supporters and staff of this club. When Mr Diouf came off the pitch after Sunday’s game, one of the first things he did apparently, was go to a policeman in the tunnel and make the accusation that he had been showered with bananas. We at the football club, and certainly Merseyside Police, take accusations of racism very seriously.

“The police immediately sent someone over to the section of the ground to scour the pitch and we sent club staff to do the same. This was ten minutes after the game had finished. We also made sure by going through the sections of the stadium where this incident allegedly happened. The police will tell you and I am telling you, no bananas were found.

“In the same way we wouldn’t tolerate our supporters racially abusing a supporter, a member of staff or a footballer, we don’t like the idea of a visiting footballer levelling that accusation at our supporters. We moved very quickly and had the allegation held any water, we would have said so and the police certainly would have said but they have confirmed that the only investigation ongoing is in to the allegations against Mr Diouf.

“In terms of Mr Diouf’s comments, we find them offensive and a lot of our supporters have been in touch with the club to say that they find them offensive.”

It was a wholly baseless allegation that was quite frankly disgusting, and we ask him to retract it with immediate effect and apologise to Everton supporters.

'We can only take what he said as a thinly veiled accusation of racism. We are not accusing him of racist behaviour but are concerned about what he said and feel it needs clarification and a retraction. In the past, throwing bananas has been construed as racist conduct, hence our concern.

'I can only think Mr Diouf must be rather naive if he thinks he can get away with an accusation like that in an age when every square metre of a Premier League pitch is covered by one camera or another. Whatever his motive, it was wrong, and he should try to draw a line under it by saying sorry.'

Diouf was last night unavailable for comment and Blackburn declined to make a statement.

Ferguson keeps faith with Foster

Manchester United's goalkeeper Ben Foster in action during the FA Community Shield against Manchester …

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has decided against dropping Ben Foster following an erratic display by the England goalkeeper in last weekend's derby win over Manchester City.

With United's first-choice keeper, Edwin van der Sar, still sidelined with broken fingers, Ferguson gave Foster a vote of confidence by confirming he would start the Premier League match at Stoke on Saturday.

Tomasz Kuszczak had made a strong case for promotion above Foster in the United pecking order with a confident display and a clean sheet in the League Cup win over Wolves on Wednesday.

But Ferguson continues to regard Foster as a better long-term prospect and does not want to risk further undermining the Englishman's confidence after he gifted City their first goal in United's 4-3 win at Old Trafford.

"It was a good opportunity for Tomasz to play on Wednesday but Ben will play tomorrow," Ferguson said Friday. "Ben has not had a lot of game experience but he will be OK."

Stoke provide a tough test for any goalkeeper with their effectiveness at set-plays and the long-throws of Rory Delap requiring good command of the penalty area.

Ferguson expects van der Sar to take another three weeks to complete his recovery from breaking two fingers in a pre-season game against Bayern Munich in July.

Arshavin, Walcott return for Arsenal

Arshavin, ready for Fulham tomorrow.

Brief news from the English Premier League before this weekend’s matches.

Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin and Theo Walcott should return for the trip to Fulham tomorrow but goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is unavailable so Vito Mannone will continue to deputise.

Arshavin has missed four matches with a groin problem while Walcott has yet to appear this season after a back injury. Denilson (back), Johan Djourou (knee), Samir Nasri (leg) are all still unavailable.

Chelsea have injury concerns over striker Didier Drogba for their trip to Wigan Athletic tomorrow after the Ivory Coast striker injured his calf in the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur five days ago.

Deco (calf) is unavailable but Joe Cole and Yuri Zhirkov could feature after playing in the League Cup win over Queens Park Rangers two days ago.

Stoke City could be without strikers Ricardo Fuller (ankle) and James Beattie (groin) for the home match with champions Manchester United tomorrow.

United have no new injury concerns and welcome back midfielder Paul Scholes after suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur have defensive problems ahead of their home match against Burnley tomorrow with concerns over Sebastien Bassong and Michael Dawson while Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King are definitely out.

Burnley will be without striker Martin Paterson and midfielder Chris McCann, who both have knee injuries.

-Goals by superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka gave Real Madrid a 2-0 win agRonaldo, Kaka score as Real Madrid beats Villarreal 2-0 in La Liga action

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, right, celebrates with his Real Madrid Raul Albiol after scoring his second goal against Xerez at the Bernabéu.

Real goalscorers Kaka and Ronaldo celebrate their latest victory at Villarreal.

Kaka celebrates with Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring Real Madrid's second goal against Villarreal.
Madrid have enjoyed an almost perfect start under new coach Manuel Pellegrini, who left Villarreal this summer, and Ronaldo took less than a minute to break the deadlock.
The devastating effect of galáctico era was on full display last night as and Kaká scored in a 2-0 win for Manuel Pellegrini's side against Villarreal.

The players, who cost Real in excess of £136m this summer, scored in each half as Real achieved their fourth win out of four in La Liga.

Ronaldo scored in stunning style after just two minutes. The Portuguese sped down the left wing, cut inside and struck with a low shot from just outside the penalty area for his fifth league goal of the season.Kaka slotted home a second-half penalty to seal the Madrid giants their fourth successive win of the La Liga season, matching arch-rivals Barcelona at the top of the standings.

In only the second minute, Ronaldo attacked on the left wing, deftly evaded two defenders, and shot low inside the near post past outstretched goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

Not long after, Villarreal central defender Gonzalo Rodriguez received a yellow card for a rash challenge on Ronaldo, who sent the resulting free kick into the defending wall.

Rodriguez earned a second yellow and his ejection in the 35th for a dangerous kick that hit Kaka in the chest.Villarreal were reduced to 10 men after 35 minutes as captain Gonzalo Rodriguez was controversially sent off in the 35th minute and the home side are still seeking their first win of the season.

Despite being a man down, Villarreal began the second half with some aggressive attacks and strong defence which appeared to catch Madrid by surprise.

After weathering that, Kaka's left cross struck Villarreal defender Angel Lopez in the hand within the penalty area, and the penalty was knocked in by Kaka in the 73rd.

Madrid's ninth new player of the season, defender Ezequiel Garay, who was signed a year ago but spent last season loaned back to Racing Santander, was injured in warmups before the match and had to be replaced by Fernando Gago.

Villarreal Response.---

Villarreal coach Ernesto Valverde was unhappy about the penalty decision in his sides 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Madrigal.

Valverde accepted the sending off of Gonzalo Rodriguez and said that was a turning point in the game but he believed that his side could have rescued a draw with ten men until Kaka converted the controversial spot-kick, awarded for a hand ball by Angel.

The Yellow Submarine went behind after just two minutes thanks to a brilliant solo effort from Cristiano Ronaldo but Valverde said referee Mejuto Gonzalez had a big part to play in the win for Madrid.

"The referee had to decide quickly and Gonzalo [Rodriguez] put his foot in late. It determined the course of the game but I don't think the penalty was deliberate but the referee had already made up his mind," Valverde said to Marca.Villarreal defender Gonzalo Rodriguez was sent off 10 minutes before the break, earning a second yellow card for catching Kaka in the chest with a reckless flying kick.

"We knew after the sending off we had to push up to have any chance. We could have had a draw but it wasn't to be. We did very little after the penalty."

Villarreal now sit third from bottom in the Primera Liga without a win so far this season and the coach knows they must turn things around.

"We are not where we like to be but we cannot look back, we must start winning," Valverde added.

Mourinho said Capello don know anything about football

Tough talking: Mourinho (left) was annoyed by Capello's remarks

Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at Fabio Capello, claiming the England boss knows nothing about football.

In an interview in his native Italy last week, Capello said Mourinho's Inter Milan 'had' to win the Champions League this season.

Jose Mourinho has told Fabio Capello he "knows nothing about football" after the England boss claimed Inter Milan had to win the Champions League this season.

The Group F has added spice with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto'o facing their former sides after their £70m swap deal in the summer."The exchange was important because the money allowed us to buy Thiago Motta, Diego Milito, Wesley Sneijder and Lucio," he said. "I lost one great player and gained another and we have reconstructed the squad."

And after Eto'o netted his second goal for Inter against Parma on Sunday, Mourinho could not resist adding: "Eto'o is the best striker in the world. Last year it was Ibrahimovic but now it's Eto'o. All my players are the best."

Taking issue: Wayne Rooney exchanges words with Besiktas fans after being substituted during United's Champions League clash in Istanbul

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has shrugged off Wayne Rooney's temper tantrum in Turkey.

The champions' star striker reacted in anger to being substituted as Manchester United won their opening Champions League Group game against Besiktas in Istanbul.

A goal from Paul Scholes late in the game gave United, last season's beaten finalists, a 1-0 win on a night when they had to overcome a hostile atmosphere and cope with laser beams being shone in their eyes from the crowd.

Rooney briefly lost his temper when he was replaced in the second half, throwing his boots down and exchanging words with abusive Turkish fans behind the United dugout.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: 'Wayne played as a lone striker for an hour and he was always coming off. He is never pleased to come off as he has that kind of energy. He wants to play all the time.

Ferguson was also altered to a security problem behind his dug-out, although he was eager not to make an issue of that.

<

'Someone mentioned it to me, but I never saw anything,' he said. 'I do know the fans made the loudest noise I have ever heard. They never stopped the whole night.'

It didn't stop United opening their quest to reach a third successive Champions League final in the perfect manner.

Ferguson was delighted with his team's overall display, particularly Antonio Valencia, who was making his Champions League debut following his £17million summer arrival from Wigan.

'Antonio was always a threat,' said Ferguson. 'He got to the by-line so many times and really we should have done better.

Van Persie claims Adebayor stamped on him

Punisment for stamping Persie face and tauting the Arsenal Fans

Emmanuel Adebayor will be charged by the FA today with violent conduct for his stamp on Robin van Persie and will miss the Manchester derby. The striker will be banned for three matches, with the FA viewing the incident as a red card offence.

And, if the FA chooses to punish a second stamping incident involving Cesc Fabregas, Adebayor's ban could increase to four games.

But that is not the end of the player's punishment, with word coming from Manchester City that the disciplinary book will be thrown at Adebayor and an internal fine totalling £200,000 dished out.

Response from Adebayor the 25million pounds Manchester City player

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes he doesn`t deserve a punishment from the English Football Association (FA).

The forward from Togo stamped on Robin van Persie`s face in Saturday`s match against Arsenal (4-2 win for City) and taunted the fans of his former club after scoring the third goal.

On Sunday FA chief executive Ian Watmore already told that the player`s actions would come under scrutiny.

Today, Adebayor told the press he doesn`t know why he should be punished. `Neither the police or the FA have told me that they want to talk to me. The same goes for the club.`

`I heard a steward got wounded after Arsenal fans threw firework,` the City striker said.

`I regret that. I also apologized to Robin. It was foolish from me to celebrate my goal in front of the Arsenal fans but they cursed at me. It wasn`t planned at all, it came to my head at the last moment. That`s all.`

Response from Van Persie

Arsenal forward Van Persie said Adebayor didn`t apologized to him. `I didn`t heard apologies from him. In fact, I`ve heard nothing at all from him.`

On Saturday the Dutch international already stated that he was furious at his former teammate.

I am sad and disappointed by Emmanuel Adebayor’s mindless and malicious stamp on me during the match,” said the Dutchman.

`We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical. I, too, have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today.`

`I feel lucky that I have not suffered a greater injury. The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football.`

-----------------

Adebayor, who scored City's third goal, looked lucky to stay on the field in the 70th minute when his apparent assault went unseen by referee Mark Clattenburg. Replays suggested that Adebayor knew what he was doing when his right foot made contact with a prone Van Persie, though he denied it after the game. If Clattenburg confirms he did not see the incident, the FA could ban Adebayor on video evidence.

There was clearly contact close to the Dutchman's eye and he needed treatment for a facial wound. Van Persie said: "I knew he was aiming for a collision because he changed the angle of his body to allow contact to be made.

"He moved backwards when his natural momentum would have taken him forward. I find that deeply disrespectful. He has shown a real lack of class today, to me and the fans."

Arsenal supporters were further infuriated when, 10 minutes after the stamping incident, Adebayor taunted them after scoring to put City 3-1 ahead. He ran 100 yards to celebrate in front of the visitors, and later apologised for his behaviour. "To be honest I'm very sorry for all this," he said, admitting "sometimes the emotion takes over". There were minor scuffles involving fans and stewards.

Adebayor said his collision with Van Persie was unintentional but the Arsenal man was unconvinced. "I do feel lucky that I have not suffered a greater injury," he said. "The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football. It's bad for the game we all love. I want to make it clear that this has nothing to do with the result of today's match. We do not hide from that disappointment but I need to speak out about his behaviour."

Henry piss off with Domenech The France Coash as France struggle. The team is bored at training , we don know wat to do in the field.

Thiery Henry frustrated in the match France vs Romania. Draw 1-1.

France striker Thierry Henry has launched an attack on the methods of coach Raymond Domenech, with the quotes coming out in the French press just two days before their make-or-break World Cup qualifier in Serbia.

The Barcelona player has hit out at the training regime and tactics, claiming that the players are getting bored during training sessions and are lost on the pitch. He spoke directly to Domenech to outline the players' concerns but was overheard by a journalist.

Henry also complained that the team did not know "how to play, where to be on the pitch, how to organise".

France, who stood by Domenech despite a horrendous showing at Euro 2008, trail group leaders Serbia by four points with three games remaining. Defeat at the Stadion Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade on Wednesday would end their chances of automatic qualification and consign them to a play-off at best.

But they are even under pressure for a play-off place and that would intensify if Austria win in Romania this week. It would make the meeting between the two nations in the Stade de France on October 14 a winner-takes-all match.

Speaking to Domenech last Friday at France's training camp, Henry was quoted by Le Parisien as saying: "Coach, we have something to tell you. I am speaking in the name of the squad.

"We are getting bored during your training sessions. In 12 years with the French team, I have never been in such a situation. We do not know how to play, where to be on the pitch or how to organise. We do not know what to do. We have no style, no guidelines. It is not working."

There has been no word from the French FA.

France failed to win at home to Romania on Saturday, making it difficult for them to book an automatic place. Henry put the home side in front on 48 minutes but they could only hold the lead for seven minutes as Iulian Apostol earned a share of the spoils.

Domenech took charge of the national side in 2004, with France reaching the World Cup final in 2006 before being knocked out in the first round of Euro 2008.

Argentina is humbled by Brazil counter attack game by Dunga boys. Maradona will not give up and pressing on like crazy.Must win next 3 matches.

Argentine coach Diego Maradona looks on as Brazil celebrate their third goal.

Argentina’s bid to reach the 2010 World Cup has floundered since the national hero Diego Maradona took over as the team’s coach.

Diego Maradona tries to retrieve the ball during the match against Brazil

Seba Veron as midfielder against Brazil. The 34 year old player find it
difficuilts to catch up with the younger counterparts Brazil.

Both as players, and now as coaches, they occupy opposite ends of football's spectrum. The pragmatism of Dunga clashes head on with Diego Maradona's romantic attacking vision, and on Saturday night the former offered a masterclass to the latter. Argentina had promised to attack Brazil, but in doing so played to Brazil's strength. The 3-1 defeat in Rosario now jeopardises Argentina's qualification hopes. With three matches remaining, there is no margin for error for Maradona's men if they are to reach South Africa.

Wrong techniques where used by Maradona , as they attack , Dunga boys were able to weather the attacking storms and played a counter attack game against Argentina which scored 2 goals.

Dunga's philosophy may have won him few admirers in the Brazilian media, yet despite playing the antithesis of joga bonito, his team has won the Copa America and Confederations Cup trophies in the past two years and now qualified for the World Cup ahead of schedule. Dunga's approach has also reaped three comfortable victories over Argentina since 2006. And now 3-0 against Argentina and entering into World Cup.

Maradona personally likes to attack and this Dunga noticed .His vision of the national team is a cavalier attacking team, ideally with three forwards, but the ambition of his gameplan simply played into the hands of Brazil, who waited patiently for the opportunity to counter attack.

Yet while Maradona will have been frustrated at his team not creating more danger in attack, more of a concern is the defence as Argentina were undone by two set pieces in the first half. After a confident start from the home side, Gabriel Heinze permitted Luisão the luxury of a free header, which the Benfica defender converted with ease. Failure to deal with a driven free-kick from Elano seven minutes later allowed Kaká space to cross, and Luís Fabiano profited in the ensuing scramble. When the debutant Jesús Dátolo's effort beat Julio César from long range in the second half, Brazil charged up to the other end with Kaká and restored their two-goal lead after Fabiano finished off a classic counter-attack with a calm finish.

Maradona still no able to use full potential of Messi .Messi will feel he was too often isolated in attempting to unlock Brazil's watertight defence. La Nación, however, pointed to his poor decision-making and reluctance to pass.Messi's only offensive ally on the night was Juan Sebastián Verón in midfield. For all his toil, Carlos Tevez was ineffective as Messi's strike partner and failed to shoot at goal for the entire first half. Verón may be the reigning South American footballer of the year, but the 34-year-old Estudiantes midfielder was unable to keep up with his Brazilian counterparts.

With three fixtures remaining of the South American World Cup qualifiers, all of Argentina's matches would certainly seem to fit that criteria. They travel to Paraguay on Wednesday in the knowledge that two teams – Ecuador and Colombia – are just two points behind. Maradona must inspire his players to put the disappointing defeat behind them. However, second-placed Paraguay will offer a real challenge, and could sentence Argentina to suffering the biggest disappointment of all.
