Lucky omen? John Terry and Matthew Upson both scored in England's win over Germany when the sides last met

England will play against Germany in their all-red strip after the colour brought Fabio Capello luck against Slovenia.

As group winners, the Germans are technically the 'home team' when the old rivals meet in Bloemfontein on Sunday to dispute a place in the World Cup quarter-final and they will wear their traditional white shirts, black shorts and black socks.

England could have opted for red shirts, white shorts and red socks, the combination they wore in the 1966 World Cup final, but have decided to stick with all red after Wednesday's 1-0 win.
Bloemfontein has been experiencing freezing temperatures at night and the pitch has suffered.

Switzerland play Honduras in the stadium today but FIFA banned the two teams from training inside the venue.

As of last night, boss Capello had yet to study the tapes of Germany's three games - wins against Australia and Ghana and defeat to Serbia - but is reluctant to tinker with a winning formula, which is good news for Jermain Defoe and Matthew Upson.
Yesterday, the players who played against Slovenia had a gentle work out in the gym, while those not involved were put through their paces.

Michael Carrick and Aaron Lennon, both nursing ankle injuries, were the only players absent.
